Description

Japanese 'bento' culture is becoming more popular all over the world.

In Japan, we enjoy bento every day at school or at work.

Japanese bento look cute, they are well-balanced nutritionally and they are also great value. Give them a try!


In this bento cooking class, in addition to a demonstration and a cookery lesson, there will be time for each participant to arrange all the food within the box. Make your own bento, then let's have a fun lunch time!

Every one of you will be given a bento box as a souvenir so that you can try what you’ve learned in the class back home!

1 main dish + 2 side dishes + miso soup + Japanese rice

・Buta no yasaimaki teriyaki sauce (pork vegetable roll with teriyaki sauce)

・Horenso no gomaae(spinach with sesame dressing)

・Tamagoyaki(Japanese rolled omelet)

・Omisoshiru (miso soup with tofu and seaweed)

Instructor: Yukari Elliott

Yukari Elliott is a Japanese food researcher living in the UK. Her English husband speaks Japanese fluently and they have a son and a daughter. She set up a Japanese and Asian food catering business in the UK and currently holds cooking and table coordination classes at her home. Yukari also writes articles about English food culture for the UK embassy in Japan and for magazine columns. She develops recipes for restaurants and also works with events and media companies. Yukari published 'English cooking is actually quite good' in 2012

Things to bring: an apron

*If you don’t have an apron, we will give you a disposable one

*If you bring a camera, feel free to take pictures


Number of participants: Maximum 12 people


Souvenir: Wappa bento box:

Wappa is traditional craftwork of Japan.
Soak a thin board of wood, such as cedar or cypress, in hot water and shape into a form of a cylinder.
Wappa bento box is very popular because of it's natural antiseptic property of wood helps to keep food in the bento box fresh, and also because of the beauty especially when it's photographed.
